A scorcher in southeast Michigan inspired by latest large pastel painting, "Heat Wave."
Heat Wave is 18x24 done in soft pastel on Uart 400 paper. The original reference photo, which is quite the opposite of this painting, is seen below. I discovered this foggy, swampy area in Bridgewater Township, west of Saline, MI.
As is customary of my large format paintings, a bit of imagination is added to the scene, and plenty of time is allowed, to modify and add detail. This is the most enjoyable part of creating a painting! Of the reference photo, just the tree line, water and fog survived in the final painting, and certainly not in their original character.
